Broadcast Electronics Introduces HD Radio To ThailandQuincy, IL, USA − In yet another digital radio first, Broadcast Electronics (BE) installed an HD Radio™ system for a public radio network targeting mass transit commuters in Bangkok.
The system was acquired by RNT Television Plc (www.rnttelevision.com), which has a contract to broadcast to buses in Thailand using a portion of existing licensed FM frequencies. Broadcast Electronics installed the HD Radio system last week; a Broadcast Electronics FMi 106 HD Radio transmitter system is operating in high-level combined mode with an existing BE FM 5C transmitter.
“Interest has been growing in Thailand, like elsewhere, for an affordable, robust digital radio system that will open up opportunities for broadcasters. This new HD Radio network for mass transit indicates that the technology has great potential here,” said Pairoj Veeranondh, Managing Director of Broadcast and Studio Co.,Ltd., which represents Broadcast Electronics in Thailand.
The Radio of Thailand authorized the system as Thailand’s first introduction to HD Radio. To receive the broadcasts, more than 10,000 HD Radio receivers will be installed in buses.
“Our HD Radio technology proved to be the most cost-effective, robust mobile technology for broadcasting music and news programming to public commuters in part because it doesn’t suffer from multipath distortion,” commented Chuck Kelly, BE Director, International Sales. HD Radio uses spectrum from existing licensed FM stations without affecting station broadcast or reception quality.
As the largest radio-only broadcast manufacturer of studio and transmitter products in the United States, BE supplies its products as standalone units to existing systems or as part of a total system package along with other third-party products for unmatched system reliability and future-proof flexibility.
