Continuing Expansion: iBiquity Announces New Luxury Automaker Will Include HD Radio Technology
Columbia, Maryland – November 18, 2009 - iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio™ Technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, today announced that the 2010 Rolls-Royce model lineup will integrate HD Radio Technology as standard equipment, including the highly regarded 2010 Rolls-Royce Phantom Series - available in dealerships now.
"We are proud to confirm the availability of HD Radio Technology for yet another prestigious brand - Rolls-Royce," said Jeff Jury, Chief Operating Officer of iBiquity Digital. "The Rolls-Royce brand is revered. This commitment to HD Radio Technology as standard illustrates how digital radio's dynamic function enhances the in-car ambiance. The addition of Rolls-Royce to the HD Radio roster truly solidifies the Technology's stature in the luxury automotive class."
Rolls-Royce of North America offered HD Radio Technology in its vehicles as standard equipment in late 2007. Today, the highly-regarded Phantom models, including the Sedan, Extended Wheel Base, and Drophead Coupe, enable drivers to experience new channels with unique content in crystal-clear digital sound. There are currently more than 2,000 stations in the country broadcasting in digital, with over 1,000 HD2/HD3 multicast channels. For a complete list of HD Radio stations broadcasting in the U.S., go to http://www.hdradio.com/.
HD Radio Technology continues to be adopted by the automotive industry at an accelerating pace. Including Rolls-Royce, there are currently nine automakers offering factory-installed HD Radio Technology as standard or an option: BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes, MINI, Scion, Land Rover and Volvo. Five others have also committed to offering HD Radio Technology, including: Audi, Ford, Kia, Lincoln and Mercury.
BMW, the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, was the first automaker to offer HD Radio Technology in its vehicles. Today, BMW offers HD Radio Technology as a standard feature in its 2009/2010 Model Year 7 Series, 6 Series, 3 Series, 1 Series, X5, X6 and Z4 Roadster vehicles; and also as a factory-installed option across the balance of its line.
