iBiquity Approves Sanyo Semiconductor’s SDRS-400 Reference Design and LC75040 Tuner
Tokyo, Japan – May 21, 2009 – iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio™ technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, announced today that it has approved Sanyo Semiconductor Corporation’s SDRS-400 reference design and its LC75040 tuner for digital HD Radio receiver applications. The solution is designed primarily for automotive products but is well suited for other applications in the growing market for HD Radio devices.
The SDRS-400 reference is comprised of the LV25400 RF front-end IC and the LC75040 analog back-end IC. The combination of LV25400 and LC75040 provides a digitized interface that can be combined with HD Radio decoder ICs to design high-performance, highly sensitive HD Radio receivers for automotive applications. It integrates a digital AM/FM tuner, RDS, audio function and a micro computer into a single DSP chipset for a car radio solution.
“We are excited to play an integral role in the growth of the HD Radio system,” said a Sanyo executive. “We bring excellent experience to the development of high-quality, integrated audio solutions.”
iBiquity Digital’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Jury, commented, “We are very pleased that Sanyo has entered the HD Radio technology marketplace. Sanyo is well placed to meet the rapidly growing demand for high-quality chip sets for the rollout of new automobile platforms offering HD Radio receivers as standard or options in vehicles.”
Overall, more than 1.5 million HD Radio chip sets have been manufactured and more than 1 million modules shipped, with more than 100 different HD Radio products available to consumers today. The HD Radio approval process includes a rigorous inspection of performance and functionality to ensure compliance with the HD Radio broadcast system requirements. Sanyo Semiconductor joins NXP in offering radio receiver manufacturers a front-end chipset that can be integrated with HD Radio decoders into radio products to deliver high-quality HD Radio performance at a low cost.
